Chrysalis Rural Business Services

Chrysalis Rural Business Services is a small family business based near Diss, on the Norfolk, Suffolk border.

We offer specialist Agricultural Bookkeeping and administration services to any sized business, including sole Traders, Partnerships, Companies, Trusts and Charities. As well as bookkeeping, we can offer Payroll, VAT Submission and Crop and Livestock records.

We have a small office in Palgrave, just outside Diss in Suffolk, from where can offer total remote services for your business needs.

Mellissa Flatt AATQB, MICB

Mellissa is an AAT qualified bookkeeper. She is a member of IAgSA and holds her practice license with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB).

She started her Farm Administration journey in the early 2000’s to assist her husband, Chris, with record keeping for crops and livestock for their busy, mixed farming business. Working around a very busy family schedule, she attained her AAT qualifications, at the same time as being a trainer for Landmark Systems on their Key accounts and Geofolia software. She realised the demand for bookkeeping services, and decided to start Chrysalis RBS looking after farming and rural business customers.

Chris Flatt

Chris was the owner and manager of a mixed farming business for more than 20 years. The farm were early adopters of computer technology for record keeping, using Farmplan and Multicrop, and later Key Prime, Gatekeeper and Herd manager. After leaving the business in 2021, he worked for a year in schools and clubs coaching hockey and assisting some farming clients with crop recording. He then joined Fram Farmers, the second largest agricultural buying group in the UK, as Machinery Buyer, quickly progressing into a management role, looking after the machinery, building materials and fuel teams. He left this role in early 2024 to rejoin Mellissa at Chrysalis RBS as things were growing.

Mellisa and Chris bring together a great amount of bookkeeping and farming knowledge, and strive to build bespoke packages for their clients, realizing that everyones needs are different.

Dylan and Amelia

Dylan is Chris and Mellissas’ oldest child, has been working part time for Chrysalis RBS since 2023, is Xero certified, and proficient in Key accounts. Their meticulous nature and great eye for detail, makes them a fantastic asset to the business.

Amelia has been working part time for Chrysalis RBS since early 2024, after spending 2 years working in the outdoor pig industry. She is also Xero certified and is working towards her ICB qualifications.

A strong farming background for both Dylan and Amelia gives them a great knowledge base for being able to support rural businesses with our services.

Holds Professional Indemnity Insurance
Is registered with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) as required by the Data Protection Act 1998.
As a member of various professional bodies, Mellissa must comply with Continuing Professional Development rules ensuring she is always up to date with the latest guidelines and regulations in all areas of her work
Is registered and supervised under the Anti-Money Laundering Regulations
